In the upper third of your screen, you will see "Select media". This area works like Windows® Explorer on your computer. You can use it to search for sound files or MIDI files on your hard drive. The five buttons make it easy to search through your computer's drive(s) to find and load new titles.
TIP! You can find many free MIDI files online. With a little bit of luck, you'll even find your favorite song.
To listen to a MIDI file just click on it with your mouse. To load and edit it into the Arranger you have several options:
Press the "Enter" key, or double-click on the corresponding MIDI file to automatically place it in the editing area. Another option is the "Add media" button. Alternatively, you can drag & drop the song into the Arranger. Drag & drop means to use your left mouse button to click on the MIDI file and then, with the left mouse key held down, to drag the sound file into the Arranger (the middle of the FreeRingtoneMaker screen), and then to release the mouse key.
2. Edit your ringtone
In the middle area of your screen you'll see "Edit ringtone". Here you see a four-track Arrangement window in which you can, as described above, import your MIDI files.
Enter the length of your ringtone in the bar above the four tracks. You can easily change the length: A left-click on the bar allows you to set the starting point of your ringtone. A right-click lets you to set the end point. The chosen portion is now blue and will be played in a loop. To play it, click on the Play button or press the space bar on your keyboard.
You can also arrange your ringtone on multiple tracks to combine several of your favorite tunes. Put music on all four tracks, place the audio where you want it on the track, and mix it together. After all, that's why MAGIX equipped FreeRingtoneMaker with four tracks. It functions as follows:
All four tracks will be mixed together. The volume level of each track can be separately adjusted using the fader on each track. Just like the pros do it!
Experimenting with MIDI is not only fun – it's also easy:
You don't have to take the MIDI song as it is, you can also change it to your liking. By double-clicking on the object, you open a menu with which you can edit MIDI songs. It shows you how your MIDI song is composed of multiple instruments. By checking/unchecking an instrument, you turn it on or off. You can also hear the instruments individually in solo mode and change the instruments, without changing the melody. It's worth trying a few out. On the right side of the menu, you can adjust the volume levels of the individual instruments.
You can also change the pitch of your MIDI melodies: To do so, right-click on the object and select "MIDI Transposition".
Note: The maximum number of voices allowed is shown at the bottom underneath the menu. Make sure that you don't exceed the maximum number allowed by your cell phone.
You will see a small menu: values greater than 0 make the melody higher in pitch. If you insert a minus in front of the number, the melody sounds lower in pitch.
3. Loading ringtones onto your cell phone
Once you have perfected your new ringtone, it just needs to be exported and transferred to your mobile phone. To do so, click on the "Polyphonic" button and choose the appropriate transfer method.
